The UAS Category Manager will be responsible for the sustainable growth of the category and the portfolio of products within the UAS segment across all ADS sales channels. An effective Category Manager understands and can articulate their portfolio's position in the market, vendor community and convert that understanding to revenue. The right candidate will deliver value through the implementation of effective negotiation strategies that reduce both organizational costs and risks while improving vendor performance. Holding vendors accountable and encouraging innovation from the supplier base will be key to success.  The Category Manager will build strong partnerships with external/internal stakeholders to identify new opportunities, negotiated cost savings and return profits on time invested. Vast competencies and knowledge in contract development, including key contracting principles, standard terms, and certainly a strong grasp on industry trends and standards will be expected. Experience negotiating complex agreements for commodities, products, services and enterprise solutions is required. Position may have direct reports in the form of Supplier Account Managers.

 

NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Generate new opportunities with existing suppliers & existing customers
  • Find and capitalize on "white space" in Category
  • Provide leads to sales team and support those leads during initial phases of business development

 

STRATEGIC PLANNING

  • Create and execute sales initiatives that bring value and measureable revenue to ADS Sales reps and vendors
  • Develop & present annual Vendor Plans for suppliers and Sales
  • Assess this plan quarterly and adjust as needed
  • Develop long term plan for Category growth

 

VENDOR MANAGEMENT

  • Negotiate terms with existing suppliers to maximize overall margin
  • Must be extremely well-versed and able to articulate the ADS Value Proposition
  • Identify new vendors and assess viability for partnerships
    • Travel to new vendor facilities to assess capability and products and to best understand where ADS can add value
  • Maintain deep relationships with vendor community - continually reinforce ADS value proposition
  • Understand competitive landscape for category, both customer facing and vendor facing

 

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

  • Fully understand existing contracts available in your category
  • Support capture efforts for new contracts

Senior Category Managers:

  • Identify new contracts in your category
  • Lead capture efforts for those contracts

 

PRODUCT EXPERTISE

  • Increase vendor portfolio with emerging tech and sought after equipment
  • Stay abreast of new products in category while keeping existing product offerings fresh
  • Be resident expert on product/category trends
  • Maintain presence within technical community of category
  • Research user requirements to focus on solutions that will yield maximum results
  • Work with Training to educate Sales

 

MANAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS (if applicable)

  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop team members
  • Provide ongoing feedback & direction

 

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

  • 30-60% TRAVEL REQUIRED

  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 5 years' experience with US Government contracting and acquisition
  • 2 years' successful experience in business development and/or program management
  • 3+ years' experience in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word must be highly proficient
  • Must demonstrate DRIVE and ability to solve problems independently, without prompting
  • Must be HUNGRY to create opportunities and find new business
  • Must possess strong and fearless negotiations skills while still managing relationships with finesse

 

ADS experience may be substituted for any of the above at the manager's discretion.

 

 

 

All employees accepting a position as Category Manager will be expected to make an 18-month commitment and may not transfer to another role without approval from the EVP of Sales.
